Medical assistants play a vital role in the healthcare profession. Their tasks can include both administrative duties and clinical duties ranging from scheduling appointments to billing to assisting patients. Your responsibilities as a medical assistant is dependent on the size and speciality of the practice.

Duties for a medical assistant may include:

• Recording patient history and personal information
• Measuring vital signs
• Giving patients medications or injections as directed by physicians
• Scheduling patient appointments
• Entering patient information into medical records
• Preparing blood samples for lab tests

Several potential job fields may be open for medical assistants. These include:

There are also specific skills an employer may look for in a medical assistant. Included are:

The Medical Assistant program at YTI Career Institute (YTI) can be completed in as few as 21 months and is offered through the York, Pennsylvania campus. Courses are completed in a hybrid format, meaning part of the instruction is offered online and the other part consists of hands-on, on-campus learning. For online learning, materials are accessible in an asynchronous format 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
